A communal multi-generational block was completed in Penttilänranta, Joensuu, in June-July 2018. The plot has six buildings, of which Setlementtiasunnot owns four and Joensuun Kodit owns two. There are 156 rental apartments in the entire block, 104 of which are rented by Setlementtiasunnot.

The block includes 20 apartments for individuals with mild intellectual disabilities who receive support for independent living. Applications for special needs housing are made through Siunsote’s disability services.

The apartments are studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units without saunas. Studios range from 28.5 m2 to 35.5 m2, one-bedroom apartments from 40 m2 to 50 m2, and two-bedroom apartments from 49.5 m2 to 61.5 m2.

Environment

Joensuu’s Penttilänranta is not only a modern and communal residential area but also a significant art project; approximately one percent of the construction costs are allocated to art.

As a living environment, Penttilänranta is pleasant, modern, safe, and supportive of community. Its location next to Joensuu city center ensures that all city services are nearby.

The area has particularly focused on smooth and high-quality implementation of light traffic connections.

Construction in the area is still ongoing, and construction work may cause disturbances to residents.

All apartments are designed to be accessible, and the balconies are glazed. The building also features an outdoor equipment storage, a communal sauna section, and apartment-specific storage lockers. 74 parking spaces are located in the garage, carport, and as outdoor spaces. Pets are allowed. The buildings are smoke-free, meaning smoking is prohibited in apartments, on balconies, inside the property, and within the plot area.
