Setlementtiasunnot is a pioneer in communal living. Our goal is to be the most desired landlord for residents and to build vibrant, communal neighborhoods. Each of us has the opportunity to belong and live as part of a community – in our own way.
With us, residents do not have to feel lonely. We offer affordable homes that provide space for togetherness, shared activities, and neighborly help. Communal neighborhoods enhance daily well-being, create security, and support social sustainability.
Everyday life offers opportunities for encounters
- All our buildings have a resident common room, which includes a shared living room and kitchen. In addition, the buildings feature gyms, workshops, and other facilities that encourage communal activities.
- Community is built by residents. In each building, the neighborhood takes on its own character as residents shape it to reflect themselves.
- We support shared activities. Setlementtiasunnot offers support, tools, and facilities for building community.
- External operators are also involved. For example, mother-child groups, cultural events, and clubs enrich daily life. New ideas are always welcome!
- The Kerro application makes communication smooth. Through it, residents receive information about events and can offer neighborly help. The application works on phones and is also displayed on information screens in stairwells.
Setlementtiasunnot’s community spirit has received well-deserved recognition. Our Alppikylä property in Helsinki was chosen as the best residential area in the Nordic countries in the international NBO Housing Award competition in 2024. The award signifies how community, resident activities, and quality everyday life form a strong whole with us.
Community is realized in everyone’s own way. The resident committee and residents can together organize various activities: brunches, pre-Christmas parties, art exhibitions, work bees, and exercise sessions. Many have found a friend in a neighbor, but participation is not an obligation. With us, everyone can be involved in a way that feels right for them. Community is an opportunity, not a compulsion.
“Doing things together gets people off their couches, to get to know each other and try new things.”
“In a normal building, you don’t get to know people. Here, you get to know your neighbors.”
