Sirpa Tavi is a neighbor of the year. He lives in the Setlement Housing House in Jätkäsaari, Helsinki. The winner of the honorable mention has been announced as part of a neighborhood week , celebrated on 19-25 May.
- Sirpa's cheerful nature and sincere desire to produce good for his neighbors is exceptional, says one of the honorary mentions of Tavi House.
The residents of the setting dwellings chose the neighbor of the year among themselves. Settlement apartments have 21 houses in seven locations.
Tavi is well taken from the honorable mention.
- The neighborhood means to me that we help each other in different ways in this house. And the elevator says Morjens, among the neighbors, he ponders.
Communality reduces loneliness
Retired Tavi has worked as a teacher in the food industry on the bakery channel line. Indeed, his skills emerge in the speeches of several inhabitants as an important part of creating a common spirit and community.
- He creates and organizes events that have a low threshold to participate, for example, baking together, says the resident.
Tavin gingerbread and pie workshops are welcome all in the yard of the block, which also has service homes for people with disabilities.
- It is important for us with setting apartments that our houses can naturally create community in everyday encounters. We want to create a framework where people can meet and belong to the group in their own way, says Katri Kaukinen from the setting homes.
Nowadays, many of us in Finland live alone.
- Then the importance of neighbors is even more pronounced. Many of our residents say that the best thing about living in this house is the very neighbors, Kaukinen says.
Tavi agrees:
- It is important to consider everyone. I always try to attract our house alone to the residents' Friday coffee, which I usually bake something, he says.
Jätkäsaari House has a good, spacious joint kitchen where food for even a larger group is successful.
- Many here do not cook at home, but eat food. When they get hand -made food, that's nice. Nothing complicated - I've done eg. Pea soup with a 10 liter boiler and a bun, he smiles.
