Alppikylä of the Settlement Housing in Helsinki and the surrounding residential area represent Finland in an international competition to find the best residential area in the Nordic countries. Four video candidates from different countries were selected for the finals.
- The news is particularly gratifying at a time when the government cuts the housing subsidies and plans to weaken for public benefit. The importance of social housing production in people's everyday life and well -being is enormous - this is also reflected in our competition video , says Suvi Tuomala, .
Alppikylä was a natural choice for Setlement apartments as a competitive candidate, as the natural area surrounded by nature, the special area is known for its neighborhood and strong community.
- In all of our houses, we are investing in community, but Alppikylä , the spirit of our house is particularly strong, says Suvi Tuomala.
For example, residents organize courtyards, cultivate common cultivation boxes and help each other in daily matters. They also run a waste food distribution to residents of the area.
The winner will be clear in September
The NBO Housing Award had the opportunity to participate in a minute video. There were 19 candidates, seven of which were from Finland. Four candidates representing different countries were selected for the finals.
The competition is organized by the Housing Nordic- NBO, which is a cooperation organization of the owners of the Nordic affordable rental and residential houses. The winner of the competition will be revealed on 19.9. At the Nordic Housing Conference in Stockholm.
