Student rental homes designed in collaboration with students
Kontula Student Hall is located right next to the Kontula Center and Metro Station, which is only five minutes (one metro stop) to Metropolia's Myllypuro campus. The Myllypuro campus is a new center for about 6,000 students and 500 employees. Both Kontula and Myllypuro are key areas for development in the city, whose services and resident structure are to be diversified and the cityscape is developed. Our Kontula student apartment is contributing to supporting these goals.
The student house was designed to listen to students' needs. From the beginning, students from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences were involved in the planning. In this way, there were solutions that work from the point of view of different students to the housing and their equipment and their equipment. For example, the students hoped
- there were enough windows in the apartment to allow sunlight to illuminate as soon as they wake up and at the coffee table.
- The neighbors would feel well and the atmosphere is good, you would always say goodbye. There could be some sauna/common space where you could hang out with your neighbors freely.
A initial survey of the method of experience was organized for students, based on which two workshops were organized. The first workshop mapped the students' wishes and needs. In the second workshop, students were able to comment on preliminary sketches of apartments and common areas. Students were also asked about the ecology of housing. In addition, a financial perspective was combined with the wishes. The students were asked: how much would you be willing to pay for the wish you wanted? This also resulted in housing solutions that meet financial boundary conditions.
In addition to the student group, representatives of the setting housing, the contractor and the architectural firm participated in the workshops. There was also a close dialogue with the Metropolia Bachelor of Science Advocacy Association. The events were fruitful for both students and implementers.
Communality and versatile greenery
- Enables cooking together, playing board games, organizing racing staders, and gathering with other hobbies (reading circle, crochet club, etc.) was one of the students' wishes.
And the wish came true. Kontula Student House has a variety of common areas: a modifiable club room with kitchens and terraces, a bright house laundry, a study and workstations, a group workspace/board game room, top kerro Ksen's sauna facilities and shared balconies kerro the ks. Solutions that enable community activities and encounters were designed in the yard. Vegetation choices have taken into account students' wishes, for example. Edible plants, and there are also co -culture boxes. Particular attention has been paid to biodiversity.
The project is an example of a destination for which the residents will participate in. We hope that similar solutions will spread more widely to the development of student housing.
