Setlementtiasunnot presented its operations to Members of Parliament at an event in the Parliament’s Little Parliament, organized by Setlementtiliitto on September 4.
– In all our properties, we focus on community. Communal neighborhoods foster security and social sustainability, stated Suvi Tuomala, CEO of Setlementtiasunnot, in her address.
Setlementtiliitto invited Members of Parliament to the event to listen and discuss settlement work and opportunities for cooperation. The event featured addresses by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Paula Risikko (NCP) and Members of Parliament Nasima Razmyar (SDP), Mira Nieminen (Finns), Anna-Kristiina Mikkonen (SDP), and Krista Mikkonen (Green League).
– The work of Setlementtiasunnot is precisely what we talk about so much in these times: preventing segregation. In Finland, the prevention of segregation has been achieved specifically through housing policy. That has been our great strength. If we abandon it, it will be much more difficult for us to otherwise ensure that society does not become more unequal, said Krista Mikkonen.
Suvi Tuomala was of the same opinion:
– ARA housing is key to social sustainability and combating segregation – market-based solutions are not enough, she stated.
Investing in community is an investment in Finland’s future, Tuomala emphasized. In her address, Nasima Razmyar also highlighted the significant role of Setlementtiasunnot and community in reducing loneliness.
– Loneliness is one of the greatest tragedies in this society. What worries and saddens me greatly is that loneliness affects the elderly, said Nasima Razmyar.
– The significance of social housing production for people’s daily lives and well-being is immense, summarized Suvi Tuomala in her address on behalf of Setlementtiasunnot.
