A sad housing fire in Hakunila, Helsinki, had a sad death. There were no smoke alarms in the apartment.
What can you do yourself as a resident of our house to be as safe as possible from a fire?
1. Make sure your home smoke alarms are in good working order. Responsibility for smoke alarms and their operations, either you or the housing association, is based on the model of the warnings.
- If your apartment has fire alarms connected to the power grid, they are the responsibility of the company by law.
- On the other hand, the operation of battery -powered smoke alarms is always the responsibility of the resident.
- Remember that the smoke alarm should by no means be taken off, even if it seems distractingly alarming, for example, a food cart.
2. Do not leave a candle or lantern without guarding on the living rooms or on the balcony. It is forbidden to prepare warm food on the balcony.
3. Avoid leaving the batteries to charge unattended to the apartment. Also, do not use damaged electrical equipment.
