Katri Kaukinen and Suvi Tuomala from Setlementtiasunnot participated in the program of the affordable housing KOVA Days on May 8th.
In her presentation, Katri Kaukinen commented on the effects of Kela’s housing support cuts.
– The cuts are tangibly affecting the daily lives of our residents and highlight the need for stronger social housing policy. Housing solutions are made today, but their effects extend far into the future, she emphasized.
Suvi Tuomala participated in a panel discussion that addressed the current challenges and opportunities for rental housing and right-of-occupancy housing communities.
– The discussion was inspiring and sparked many thoughts about the future. Non-profit rental housing is currently challenged by many factors: changes in market conditions, regulation, availability of financing, and rising costs. Nevertheless, there was a common view in the panel that non-profit housing will maintain its central role in the future. It is not just part of the overall housing landscape, but a fundamental pillar that supports the vitality of cities and the well-being of residents, Tuomala states.
– At Setlementtiasunnot, we believe that non-profit rental housing plays a crucial role in supporting the vitality of municipalities and cities. Affordable housing is not just about providing a roof over one’s head; it is about security, community, and the opportunity for a good life.
