- We have the business of our entire company on community living, recalls CEO Suvi Tuomala of Setlement homes.

Loneliness is a problem growing in Finland. In communal living, a resident belongs to the community if he or she wishes and gets a company. Communality also provides security for a single person.

Settlement housing houses include comfortable community space T, which are available daily to all residents.

- Many people start their days from there by the local newspaper and at the same time change their news with neighbors, Tuomala says.

In addition to the residents, the houses have, for example, a gym, a workshop or common cultivation boxes.

In some of the houses in the Settlement dwellings, residents have been involved in planning joint space solutions. This has been done, for example, Kalasatama 's communal art quarter , which Helsingin Sanomat highlighted in opinion.

- Communality is built on the residents of our houses. The residents' committee and residents may organize courtyard events or various natural ways to meet in a common hobby. And our housing coordinator support residents in joint work, Tuomala says.

Community living brings security to the elderly

There has also been much discussion of future senior living in the future. In the context of government negotiations, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has highlighted the need to significantly increase the community of older people.

-We are involved in the Future Senior Housing project , which promotes age -friendly living, community solutions and models of independent living as long as possible, says Tuomala.

- Communality, among other things, reduces the loneliness of the elderly. At the same time, society can achieve large savings in the extend of living at home for a couple of years, he continues.
