Enjoy summer. Excessive indoor heat is not pleasant – but you can influence your home’s temperature with simple measures.

The best way to avoid heat is to keep the scorching air firmly outside and, on the other hand, to avoid using heat-generating appliances in your apartment.

Here are some tips to improve your living comfort during summer and avoid uncomfortable heat.

  • Check that your apartment’s radiators are turned off.
  • Keep windows and doors closed during the day.
  • Ventilate through windows, especially in the evenings and at night, during the coolest hours. If you do open a window during the day, only open it on the shaded side of the building.
  • Use window blinds or Venetian blinds.
  • Switch off unnecessary electrical appliances. Avoid baking with the oven, for example.
  • Use an air cooler if necessary. A fan circulates the room air, which helps dissipate heat from your skin. Another option is a portable air conditioner, which cools the room air.

Also remember: Damp bathroom areas dry slower in summer than in winter – so ensure that the air circulates in the space throughout the day.

Tips for using a fan

  • Switch off the fan when you are not in the room.
  • Limit the area to be cooled by closing doors and windows. A fan primarily cools the room in which it is placed.
  • You can get more out of a traditional fan by directing cool night air from an open window into, for example, a bedroom, or by directing warm air out of the room. You can also place a bowl of frozen ice packs in front of the fan, and the fan will spread cooler air evaporating from them into the room.
