Mai Myllyneva started working as a rental negotiator for Setlementtiasunnot in mid-May.
“If you have sent us a housing application, I will be the first person to contact you. To say, ‘Hello, we have an apartment to offer you,’” Mai says.
“I am also perhaps the first person a future resident meets face-to-face at an apartment viewing in the Helsinki metropolitan area.”
Mai’s duties include reviewing housing applications, selecting residents according to ARA criteria, and offering apartments to those selected.
“I also arrange apartment viewings, draw up rental agreements, and hand over keys to new residents,” she explains.
Mai graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked as a service specialist at the Employment Fund, handling adult education support, among other things. She joined Setlementtiasunnot from the hotel chain Primehotels, where she worked as a sales coordinator.
Home is a place of peace
“I am truly enthusiastic about this job. It has been easy to start, as all my colleagues are so pleasant and welcoming,” Mai says.
This new job is perfect for her, as she is interested in apartments and housing, people’s homes, and residential areas.
“I feel that home is an important thing. It is a safe haven where most people spend the majority of their time. A place to find peace. It’s wonderful to be able to offer that to people.”
“I also like that this is meaningful work. That I can help people find a home, sometimes even in difficult life situations. And I see the joy that getting a home brings them. It is rewarding. And I also enjoy interacting with people.”
Mai herself lives near the center of Helsinki, in Kamppi.
“I like old, beautiful buildings,” she smiles.
What does she plan to do this summer then?
“I don’t have any extraordinary summer plans. I intend to enjoy the Finnish summer and weather, perhaps take some small weekend trips within Finland, and see friends,” she says.
