Setlementtiasunnot participated in the Settlement Days held in Rovaniemi from April 19-21. The program included presentations on the well-being of the elderly and young people, multiculturalism, and community spirit in workplaces. The days also offered an excellent opportunity to meet new people and share experiences.

Participants had the opportunity to visit and learn about the activities of the settlements operating in Rovaniemi. Our employees visited Domus Arctica, which began its operations in 1969. Its founding members include the Rovala Work Centre Support Association, the City of Rovaniemi, and the Rovaniemi Women’s Home Industry School Support Association.

– We visited to learn about the operations of the Domus Arctica Foundation, or more familiarly, DAS. It was great to hear about the company’s activities and positive momentum. Community is a core theme in their buildings. From the visit, we gained good ideas for the development of digital systems and services offered to residents, such as shared bicycles, says Suvi Tuomala, CEO of Setlementtiasunnot.

Some of the program’s speakers shared moving personal experiences about the significance of settlement work in their lives. One of them was Iris Teräs, 93, who started volunteering at Rovala Settlement 70 years ago and now lives in a residential care facility for the elderly maintained by Rovala.

The three-day event also celebrated the venerable 100 years of operation of Rovala Settlement. A spectacular celebration was held at Korundi to mark the occasion.

Before returning home, the Setlementtiasunnot residents also visited Santa Claus. It was a good way to return to work.

The next Settlement Days will be held in Kemi on November 22, 2023. The organizer will be Toivola-Luotola Settlement.
