The Hawaii group visited Jätkäsaari in Helsinki in mid -June. They visited the award -winning generational block at Länsisatamankatu 34 as part of an affordable living trip.
The tour started from the courtyard: the Settlement Housing House , the Hitas Owners Housing House and the HOAS Student House in the same yard. Residents can pass from one building to another base kerro and use all common areas effortlessly.
The waste collection and recycling system in the yard, with its underground pipes, aroused admiration. They were also curious to see a sauna located at the kerro of the Settlement House, telling the roofs, above the roofs.

Civil protectors talked about
The party went to see a common laundry room for residents, community space A, a gym, a workshop and a band room.
- I like the coexistence of many generations and groups of residents, it is very unique. I also like the clarity of the building and the dwellings, the tall roofs and the common areas. It is certainly very nice to live here, said Hakim Ouansafi .
Civil protection was a new thing for guests, with enough questions. In Finland, they are legal by law. In the present house, civil protection is used as a bike cellar.
- Remember which state Finland is a border neighbor, Kenna Stormogipson , who served as a tour guide for the Hawaiian group group.

Communal facilities received praise
During the round, it became clear that Hawaii rents are about three times the rent for setting dwellings. Jarmo Lindén, of the Housing Financing and Development Center (ARA), was on a visit. He told about practices in which the state supports rental housing in Finland.
- We set up in setting apartments every house has a housing coordinator whose task is to have housing counseling and strengthening community. Here is his office, introduced Juuso Lökfors as the tour approached.
From the party, the services of the housing coordinator were the most interesting. These support people, even in difficult life situations and transition.
- We don't have these services in Hawaii. It is also interesting that all residents are equal. We distinguish people according to the breed and income. The buildings themselves are from a completely different world - their architecture is beautiful, Summer Lee Yadao and Desiree Graham said.
