Katri Kaukinen and Suvi Tuomala from the Setlement homes were involved in the affordable housing program on 8.5.
In his speech, Katri Kaukinen comments on the effects of Kela's housing support cuts.
- The cuts seem to be concretely in the everyday life of our residents and highlight the need for a stronger social housing policy. Housing solutions are made today, but their effects extend far into the future, he stressed.
Suvi Tuomala participated in a panel discussion discussing current challenges and opportunities for rental houses and housing entities.
- The discussion was inspiring and aroused many thoughts about the future. Currently, many things are challenged by many things in the public interest: changes in the market situation, regulation, availability of financing and increasing costs. Still, there was a common view in the panel that a public benefit will continue to play a key role in the future. It is not only part of the whole of the housing, but a basic pillar that supports the vitality of cities and the well -being of residents, Tuomala says.
-We at Settlement apartments believe that general benefit rental housing plays a crucial role in supporting municipal and urban vitality. Affordable housing is not just about providing a roof over your head, it is security, community and the opportunity for a good life.
