Live’s students, under the guidance of their teachers, will begin property maintenance and cleaning training in Setlementtiasunnot’s residential buildings in the Helsinki metropolitan area, and complete practical assessments. This offers students diverse training opportunities and, consequently, employment prospects. The aim is for the students’ presence to create a sense of security and care for Setlementtiasunnot’s residents, and to improve the standard of property maintenance and cleaning.

“I believe this marks the beginning of an interesting and diverse collaboration that will benefit both parties and our residents,” says Heli Kotilainen, CEO of Setlementtiasunnot.

Petri Seppänen, Live’s property maintenance teacher, also believes in the power of cooperation.

“Through our cooperation with Setlementtiasunnot, we can create learning paths in accordance with the curriculum, in genuine work environments, even for those students who are not yet able or otherwise capable of independently undertaking a training agreement period. Setlementtiasunnot’s property managers are also strongly committed to this cooperation, which enables, for example, the completion of practical assessments in an authentic work environment,” Seppänen praises.

According to Seppänen, Live’s students get to perform a wide variety of indoor and outdoor property tasks, which is unique. At Setlementtiasunnot’s properties, the extensive repertoire of tasks for Live’s students includes lubricating door locks and hinges, adjusting door closers, changing lamps and covers in common areas, maintaining nameplates and emergency exit signs, distributing notices, clearing clogged water traps, inspecting rainwater and roof drains, and various seasonal outdoor property maintenance tasks such as snow removal, sanding, and leaf clearing.

Live’s students work at Setlementtiasunnot’s properties a couple of days a week. Live’s staff are present to assist and support the students. “Of course, cooperation with Setlementtiasunnot’s property managers is important. We agree with them, on a building-specific basis, what our tasks will be during each season and day. The cooperation also provides an opportunity to increase the number of work sites in the future, according to our resources,” Seppänen states.
