Setlementtiasunnot has secured a land reservation in Finnoo, Espoo, along Meritie. The aim is to construct an innovative, community-oriented housing solution that specifically supports the integration of individuals with mild intellectual disabilities into conventional housing.

“We are pleased that we can now begin the more detailed planning of our community-oriented property, which embodies social corporate responsibility,” says Real Estate Director Eemeli Lönnqvist from Setlementtiasunnot.

An ARA-regulated rental building, comprising approximately 50–60 apartments, will be constructed on the plot. Of these, 10–15 apartments will be implemented as satellite apartments for individuals with intellectual disabilities, allowing them to live independently as part of the community.

The plot is located near the maritime Finnoo Bay.

Community reduces loneliness

Community is at the core of Setlementtiasunnot’s operations. The building to be constructed in Finnoo will foster encounters between residents of different ages and backgrounds. Events will be organized in the block’s common areas to strengthen community spirit and reduce loneliness.

“Our goal is to promote tolerance and equality by creating housing solutions where special groups live alongside the rest of the population,” Lönnqvist states.

The satellite apartments for individuals with intellectual disabilities are part of the building’s overall housing stock, enabling natural encounters and the formation of a community.

Rehabilitative activities under one roof

A commercial space will be located on the ground floor of the apartment building, serving as a rehabilitative and community-based workspace. This space will offer individuals with mild intellectual disabilities opportunities for participation in working life, as well as work trial and apprenticeship positions. The commercial space will also serve local residents and create new service opportunities.
