Irma Rekola has started her work as Setlementtiasunnot’s CFO.
– The importance of affordable housing is crucial for both society and residents, so it’s great to be leading Setlementtiasunnot’s finances and to see the industry from a prime position, says Rekola.
She finds it interesting to work in the settlement field, as community spirit and other values are central to settlement work, and the aim is to support people.
– It’s important to understand that this is a different operating environment than a profit-driven company, she nods.
Problem Solver
Rekola leads and develops Setlementtiasunnot’s finances and engages in close stakeholder cooperation. She earned her Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration, majoring in financial law, while working.
– I have worked in financial administration for various companies, both different sizes and publicly listed ones. For example, I worked for many years at Staria Oyj, which provides financial administration and system services, Rekola explains.
She has experience with ARA housing from her time as Financial Manager at Jyränkölän Setlementti.
Rekola says she enjoys problem-solving.
– I try to understand the bigger picture, what all might be involved. Sometimes, like a crossword puzzle, you figure out one thing, and then you realize that it helps you figure out the next. Of course, you don’t always get it, she smiles.
Home Must Be Comfortable
Rekola lives in Heinola. For her, comfort is important in housing.
– It doesn’t matter how fancy it is. A good home means it’s comfortable and peaceful, and you can be free there, she says.
– What is a good home for you might not be a good home for me. It’s so personal.
In her free time, she engages in what she calls “homely hobbies.”
– I spend a lot of time at the cottage in the summer. Additionally, I walk and attend a guided gym group twice a week.
– I read quite eclectically, especially books by Finnish authors. It’s relaxing, she says.
Young Handyman’s Assistant
Rekola says she has been “familiar with a hammer” since she was little.
– My father built holiday cottages and other things, and my husband is a carpenter. I used to be my father’s handyman’s assistant when I was younger, she laughs.
Her introduction to Setlementtiasunnot’s work began with a two-day visit to Setlementtiasunnot’s future and current properties in Tampere.
– It has felt good to start work. We have a good, proactive spirit in the workplace, Rekola states.
