Many housing companies have a laundry room and a house sauna. Settlement apartments have a partnership space. What is it about? At least it is clear that hoe guests are welcome.

Have you heard of useful plant exercise? It differs from the supply of fitness centers so that no commitment or monthly fees are required. Instead of slippers, you only need mold -resistant shoes and interest in organic vegetables.

A fly behind the Malmi campus of the Malmi Business College is waiting for a surprise. On the other side of the dirt road spreads a field and a vegetable garden. A hectare of organic vegetables and flowers in seven different blocks: pumpkins, onions, salads, herbs, roots, cabbages and flowers.

There is also a small bee garden on the outskirts of the field, which produces its own honey. Everything here is organically grown, without pesticides.

Laura Hahkala, Settlement Housing Coordinator, and Marja Mesimäki, who works for the work of quality, environmental and safety management at the Settlement Homes, get acquainted with the activities of Green City Farmi. Gardener Steven Lowndes also encourages residents to join.

Perho gardener Steven Lowndes looks at the field with satisfaction. Right now you can go on the grounds in peace, but the most preferred view is different. The dream farm is cultivated and harvested together. And that's exactly what Green City Farm works.

The field is not divided into leased blocks, but the idea is that it can benefit all the actors involved. For example, every resident of the setting dwellings is welcome to work according to their own enthusiasm and coping.

Not all vegetables need to buy in the store. They can be grown themselves - even if you live in the city. Lowndes encourages residents to come to explore the field.

"You can even book an appointment so you don't have to wander alone in the field."

Residents can also design an event at the house where one of the organic vegetables of the season is cooked. The idea of Green City Farm is that organic vegetables and flowers are used for inclusion and community purposes.

The gardener holds a small colorful bouquet with different edible flowers in his hand.
Beautiful flowers, right? But did you know they are all edible?

Residents of setting dwellings can participate in many ways from seed sowing and field work to harvest. Collecting vegetables and flowers is free and does not require commitment.

The utilization of the field must always be discussed in advance with the farmer, as a certain amount of harvest is available for the needs of setting dwellings.
