A building will be completed in Hervanta, Tampere, by the end of the year, with bathrooms constructed in an exceptional way. The bathrooms for Afrikanpiha 3 are manufactured elsewhere and installed as fully prefabricated modules into the apartments.
– Our starting point, already during the planning phase, has been to ensure quality and shorten the construction time. Prefabrication is known to have positive effects on both of these key aspects of the project, says Real Estate Director Eemeli Lönnqvist from Setlementtiasunnot.
A modular bathroom is a fully finished bathroom on the inside. It has tiled walls and floor, a toilet, a washbasin, and a shower in their correct positions and in working order. Only the building services connections, such as drainage and electrical connections, and the plasterboarding of the modular bathroom’s exterior are done on-site.
The bathroom is manufactured in a clean factory environment
The bathrooms are manufactured by Flow Modules, a leading producer of modular bathrooms in Finland. This reputable operator was chosen based on the proposal of the main contractor Hartela.
– Modular bathrooms enable affordable and high-quality living, as well as a smooth throughput time at the construction site. They simplify daily work on-site, as a complex part of the apartment’s interior work stages shifts from the construction site to clean and easily manageable factory conditions, says Service Manager Anna Ylänen-Laakso from Flow Modules.
The advantage of modular bathrooms is that the quality of work is high and consistent. In factory conditions, work is efficient, and many demanding work stages are eliminated from the construction site.
Weight up to 4000 kilograms
The manufacturing of one bathroom takes approximately a couple of weeks, and about twenty people work on it. One complete bathroom unit weighs 2500-4000 kilograms.
– For transportation from our manufacturing site in Hämeenlinna, a truck is needed, from which the modular bathrooms can be easily lifted directly to the installation site, says Ylänen-Laakso.
